While I was walking to have lunch with a friend in the South End, I came across this public park and realized that it is the closest thing to a truly public public park I have seen in this city. I'm not sure how it works, who is responsible for maintenance or what "rules" it tries to uphold, but I was pleasantly surprised to find this garden tucked into a very commercial area on Washington St.

I really enjoyed these pictures both because I think it's refreshing to see a true example of public space within the city but also because I think they can be applied to a few different themes from our class. Their obvious connection to the continued discussion we had on public and private urban space is only one way I found these to apply. I also see them tying into the urban subcultures discussion in that the sign about the flowers goes hand in hand with the maxim of the guerilla gardening movement. However, this is clearly the same sort of message but implemented through the institution that guerilla gardening is designed to subvert.
